Life Enrichment

Living Well Definitely Means Playing Well!

Every day is an occasion to celebrate! At St. James Place, endless opportunities are available from crawfish boils to Mardi Gras parades. There is something for everyone! Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Manager, events are planned to accommodate the interests of all residents.

Residents gather for activities such as bridge, poker, billiards, ping pong, shuffleboard, arts and crafts, and woodworking. Participation in the annual Senior Olympics and on the campus Games Day are both favorite activities. If you enjoy movies or sporting events on the big screen, our newly renovated multi-media room is the perfect spot. Daily happy hours in the Duplantier Lounge and afternoon coffee gatherings in the Square Coffee Shop offer opportunities to visit with friends.

Our Duplantier Auditorium is the setting for many cultural, entertainment, and educational programs. Whether it’s classical or Cajun music, Big Band sounds, or Rock ‘N Roll, our portable wooden dance floor provides a fine venue for dancing both indoors and outdoors. Organized by our residents, Evening with the Experts offers presentations by resident and community experts on topics as varied as The Art of Woodworking to Early Life in Hungary.

St. James Place serves as an official chapter and satellite location for LSU’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) offering a stimulating selection of courses from literature and history to science, politics, current affairs, philosophy and the arts.

Our 5,000 square foot Fitness Center, enclosed pool, and walking paths are all available to meet the needs of those interested in maintaining physical fitness.

In addition to the many on campus opportunities, off campus events are planned in the local Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. Whether it is a trip to the local grocery store, bank, or Farmers’ Market or evening outings to the Baton Rouge Symphony, Little Theater, or Opéra Louisiane, there is something for everyone.
