Dr. John Thomas and Mrs. Rosetta Mainieri – 2021 Mardi Gras King and Queen of St. James Place Assisted Living

All hail Dr. John Thomas and Her Majesty Rosetta Mainieri as the newly-crowned 2021 Mardi Gras King and Queen of St. James Place Assisted Living!

Ruling with warm hearts and even warmer smiles, the royal pair are looking forward to riding in the parade together as they spread cheer and represent their community well.

The limelight is nothing new for King Thomas, as he’s reached the heights of fame with the LSU baseball team, both as a player and team doctor. Winning five national championships with the team, as well as the SEC championship in 1961 as a player, Dr. Thomas has been a big part of our Assisted Living Community since moving here four years ago.

The Queen is no stranger to LSU baseball herself — she’s the mother of long-time head coach Paul Mainieri! After Coach recommended St. James Place, Rosetta moved into the Assisted Living Community in 2018, and dove right in to all of the activities offered. “[I love] everything! John’s Brain Games classes, Fr. Jerry’s services, bingo, painting and all the people,” she added.

That community has been even more important to our king and queen during the last year. In a year with many uncertainties and “new normals,” both are thankful to be at St. James Place through it all.

“I feel much better being in a community [during the pandemic] than being at home alone,” said Dr. Thomas.

Likewise, Rosetta echoed those same sentiments, saying “I feel safe here, and I’ve enjoyed the companionship. I just love the girls I’ve met here and really gotten to know during the pandemic!”

This year’s King is looking forward to the festivities, hoping that everyone “has a good time and enjoys this year.” While both are excited to play a part in the celebrations, they aren’t the only ones excited about their appointment.

“It has made my family so excited and happy. They were all bowing to me on Zoom over the weekend. I think they are enjoying it as much as I am,” Rosetta laughed.
